Latar Kisah cerita Bangunan Tabung Haji dan jasa Ungku Aziz

Bangunan Tabung Haji Jalan Tun Razak - Raja Ahmad Aminullah 

Sedang saya menulis di Fesbuk tentang Kisah Al Kahfi; ternotifi satu nota daripada Ungku (Raja Ahmad Aminullah), salah seorang guru saya. Terlihat oleh saya gambar Bangunan Tabung Haji dengan Nota:

Dari ide(a) pada melembaganya institusi.

Semakin teruja saya bila mula-mula membaca komentar salah seorang Rakan FB Ungku seperti berikut:-

1. Tengku Mohamed Taib 

For the record, when Tabung Haji started operations in1963, there were 1,281 depositors with a total savings of US$15,400. Currently, LUTH has 8.2 million depositors with with assets of US$10.4 billion; thanks to the seemingly simple but brilliant idea of Ungku Aziz who successfully proposed the institution of Shariah approved savings for pilgrimage instead of keeping money under pillows or burying it in earthen jars or worse, selling away inherited land to finance the hajj pilgrimage. The point? We are very good at conveniently forgetting contributions by our fellow Malaysians. In this instance, how many of our teenaged children and grandchildren are made aware of the fact that it was Ungku Aziz's brilliance that gave birth to this game-changing institution that is now looked up to by the Muslim world and ummah as the ideal model in the management of hajj and umrah pilgrims to Al Mukkarramah and Al Munawwarrah? Pray tell.

Precisely the point that I was trying to make through a minimal melange of words, bro Tengku Mohamed Taib, but of course you put it much more poignantly with all the awesome figures mentioned through your-as-usual diligent research. But on another matter upon which I am sure we are in full agreement, it is about recognising the sterling contributions of our upright citizens. Forget "our teenaged children and grandchildren": how many of our own generation and those a decade or two younger really appreciate them, as opposed to the honours, accolades and sundry titles heaped upon 16-year old singers and the nouveau riche?

Quite, Bro Raja Ahmad Aminullah, quite. We are very much into the political exigency of playing to the gallery in the effort to retain popularity and whatever comes with it. We do not seem to have the will to do what is right. Sad! Tragic even!

Ya, kita lebih mudah menyediakan ruang dalam media cetak dan penyiaran untuk peserta dunia hiburan dari tokoh2 academik kita. Kita lebih mudah memberi puji2an serta pelbagai rupa pengiktirafan serta gelar pada khalayak nouveau riche/OKB dari menghargai tokoh2 intelektual,, penulis dan budayawan bangsa. Seharusnya kita mengambil pelajaran serta ilham dari Teks Agung serta sejarah tamadun2 manusia bahawa tamadun yang besar hanya dimungkinkan dengan ilmu dan pembacaan yang luas.

Moga nota ringkas berupa kometar ini dapat memberikan kita semua 'ideas' dan 'thoughts'. Kebijaksanaan YM Ungku Aziz dirasai. Lalu kita sebagai generasi muda/terkemudian mesti menggandakan ide(a) dan pemikiran.
